This is a delightful collection of poems. They poems are collected in themes, which are arranged alphabetically. There is Life, Love, Dreams, Time, War, Myth and magic to name but a few. Opening with Animals and ending with Work, there is something for everybody here.

I am reminded of The Rattle Bag. Indeed the book has many contributors, old and young. Amongst the authors' contributions are poems by children, from the Internet, Wordsworth, William Blake, Shakespeare and many more. Verse for Ages could have been called Verse from all ages, Verse for all ages.

The poems are light and accessible, but rarely trivial. A good poem resonates with the reader and after reading insists on a pause or partial rereading to fully appreciate it. Yes, a good poem should be thought-provoking and there is no shortage of them here. A good book of poetry can be measured by whether you are tempted to come back to it on occasion. I shall return to this one time and again.
